Sunday's Gospel
Jesus took Peter, John, and James
and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance
and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus
that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep,
but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus,
“Master, it is good that we are here;
let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking,
a cloud came and cast a shadow over them,
and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time
tell anyone what they had seen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Second Sunday of Lent 2025.
In today’s readings, we encounter a paradoxical aspect of our Christian faith—we
are both present and absent in this world. While we find our God in this world, it is
not our permanent home. We are pilgrims on a journey to a more permanent
dwelling place, a place of complete union with our God of Truth and Love. This is
the ultimate goal of our existence, and we must constantly keep it in mind.
It is easy to become fixated on material possessions like our careers, financial
security, education, and desired homes. These are merely stepping stones to a life
beyond. We must not, like Lot’s wife, look back nostalgically at the past and
become paralyzed with fear.
Life, as one writer aptly described it, is like watching a movie in a cinema. We
cannot cry out, “Stop! I want to stay in this scene!” Life continues, and it is crucial
to understand its direction. The transformative experience of Jesus that the
disciples witnessed was not merely a personal event for him. It also served as an
invitation for them to undergo their own transformation and transfiguration.
This invitation extends to us as well. If we listen to the words of Christ, they have
the power to change us, and this transformation will be manifest in our actions and
identity. Reflect on how your listening to the scriptures and the guidance of the
Holy Spirit has altered your perception of yourself and the purpose of this life.
